I was six months away from release and I was so anti-social. I was interviewed and accepted into the Prison Entrepreneurship Program within the last six months of my sentence and it was much needed. Living in those conditions it forces you to becomeĪ hardened person.

And I stopped trying to figure it out because the only thing that matters now is what is in front of me. Too many things in my childhood were off to pinpoint where my life took a turn for the worse. Good day, My name is Gregory LaBeet an I am a proud member of the Prison Entrepreneurship Program. There is no other program, inside or outside of prison, that can match PEP's potential to truly shift the narrative on what rehabilitative justice looks like. Working from the inside out, PEP engages inmates where they are, while they are still incarcerated, and begins the transformation process there, developing character, instilling integrity and work ethic, teaching life skills, leadership skills, job skills as well as helping people identify their own negative habits and thinking patterns.

The ugly reality is that when the vast majority of people are released from prison, they have been offered zero opportunities to develop either personal or professional skills, create a success plan for the future or cultivate a support network of peers and mentors to hold them accountable, edify them and help succeed upon release.įor going on 15 years, PEP has successfully endeavored to change that narrative, and to provide a hope and a future for so many who, without PEP, would have neither. The general assumption is that when people are sentenced to incarceration, there is some sort of mechanism in place to help these individuals rehabilitate into more positive and productive members of society. I think PEP is amazing and I continue to pray that God will bless this organization and open a door of favor that no man can close. Thank God I was able to learn marketable skills and move into a career in sales but what about those who don't have programs available to them in prison? PEP is making an impact in the lives of people and helping them to achieve goals and teaching them marketable skills that will help them to become productive members of society and to provide for their families. That model helped drive revenue for some of the top companies in the world and helped transform the lives of the women in Perryville. In my last term in DOC, I was introduced to Televerde a sales and marketing company with a unique business model. There is no rehabilitation that begins on day one where it is most needed, it starts the last month you are headed out and there is no real preparation for release. I knew I wanted better for myself but it was almost impossible to obtain as an inmate locked up. Coming home with no support, job, or direction led me back to the life of crime that got me locked up in the first place. I have spent several years of my life incarcerated and know first hand how the door to prison can stay open for years on end. I have not been directly connected to PEP but I do follow the organization.
